Blurb
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Bloggers,
Good afternoon, yep, I am finally getting back in the reviewing chair. Well here's the review of Beautiful Creatures, (Thank you to Jess for letting me borrow it)
This book is set in a typical old school town known as Gatlin. Gatlin is a place were everyone knows everyone and there is no way a secret can be kept. We are told this story from the point of view of Ethan Wate, a boy of 16, who has lived in Gatlin his whole life, he knows what everyone does and what they are going to do, just like everyone else in the town.
This harmonious way of living is suddenly disrupted when new girl Lena Duchannes arrives, the niece of Gatlin's own 'haunted old man' living in his 'haunted mansion' on the top of a hill. It's sounds a bit clichè but it fits the story perfectly.
This story evolves into a story of passion, fear, confusion and much more. As Ethan and Lena grow closer there are two groups if people hating their love for each other, the high society of Gatlin, (the snoby mothers of the cheerleaders and jocks) and a world that has been inhabiting Gatlin and the mortals never even knew existed this world being the world of Casters and more importantly the Dark Casters.
We as the reader witness what could be called and in the eyes of Ethan is called a Witch Hunt. Lena is a talented Caster, one who can't yet control what she has the ability to do, and because of this Gatlin's DAR ( the high society of women I mentioned above) want to rid their beloved Gatlin of Lena Duchannes.
Like that wasn't enough, coinciding with this modern day witch hunt, Lena and Ethan also meet problems from Lena's world, like her Claiming (a coming of age kind of thing.) It feels to them like it's coming at them from all angles and there doesn't seem to be an explaination or a way out.
Beatiful Creatures is book that will have the reader confused at one point but suddenly it all makes sense, its an interesting aspect to have in a book, but in this specific type of novel it works. The time plan can sometimes be a little unrealistic and in some cases you could be completely lost, especially at the start. But with the little reminders that the authors give to lena to give to us, steers us back in the way of looking at it.
I especially like the way that this book is, in a way a countdown, bloggers don't be turned off by this, when i say a coutndown, it is all building up to this one massive event. The one thing I did dislike about this book is the ending, it doesn't give a long enough cooling down period, but i suppose it does leave an open gap for the sequel to slide in nicely.
One thing about this novel that really stood out to me, in a good way, were the flashbacks that Lena and Ethan witness, to the time when the soldiers burned most of Gatlin to the ground, sure at the start your wondering if it even has a connection to the story line, but of course it has a very clever connection.
This novel has joined my list of favourite books, it's not at the top but near enough to it. :) I would highly recommend it, keep in mind it does need a bit of thought so i would not advise a person that wants an easy and quick read to read this.
So quickly on to my rating. . . ;
4 1/2 / 5 (losing the half mark becase of the ending)
Well bloggers i hope I have just encouraged you to go out and read it and i hopefully will go buy it for myself :) Sadly I don't have a book to read at the moment, but whenever i get money i will be out my door like a bullet and up to the book store.
