Review : Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen

Blurb

                              As a young man, Jacob Jankowski was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob, now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It was there that he met Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great gray hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and, ultimately, it was their only hope for survival

Bloggers,
Woop Im on a roll today, heres another blog.
Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen has recently become one of my favourite books, based on the show of a Travelling Circus, the Benzini Brothers most spectacular show on earth, the reader gets pulled into the past. The time in American history, the prohibition era, where alcohol was banned and circus's were very popular.
This novel tells the reader of the flashbacks of a 90 or 93 year old man, Jacob Jankowski. These flashbacks are of the very short time he spent on the tracks with this traveling circus.
Water For Elephants is an addictive read that will have you laughing, shocked and on the brink of tears, this novel is full of emotion, comedy, sarcasm and of course love. In the blurb it says that 'Love is the most spectacular show on earth,' well this story really proves this.
****Spoiler Alert****
When Jacob meets Marlena the main act of the Benzini Brothers Show, the reader is shown the power of the love. The love thats not meant to be there. But Marlena is stuck, married to a horrible, abusive, bi
-polar man, August. August's charm could wow anyone, but when he clicks, he loses it.
When reviewing this book, there's no way I could not mention Rosie, Rosie is the elephant that joins the show. Rosie brings comedy to this novel is places that need that bit of comic relief. Rosie only understands Polish, and coincidentally Jacob is Polish. The best thing about Rosie is that she has a way of bringing people together and pulling others apart.
On looking back at this novel I see no big negativity, of course there are those little holes that riddle the book, but every good book has them.
I don't want to spoil anything more of the book because once I get started I wont be able to stop. And that would be terrible if you actually want to read it gos yourself.
Seriously if YA ages plus haven't read this you really jess to. Its a life lesson and shows so many emotions running on the one story line.
My rating of Water For Elephants ;
***** 5 stars

FW: Review : Awakened by P.C and Kirsten Cast

                                                                         Blurb

 Exonerated by the Vampyre High Council and returned to her position of High Priestess at Tulsa’s House of Night, Neferet has sworn vengeance on Zoey. Dominion over Kalona is only one of the weapons she plans to use against Z. But Zoey has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and is being groomed by Queen Sgiach to take over for her there. Being Queen would be cool, wouldn’t it? Why should she return to Tulsa? After losing her human consort, Heath, she will never be the same – and her relationship with her super-hot-warrior, Stark, may never be the same either…
                And what about Stevie Rae and Rephaim? The Raven Mocker refuses to be used against Stevie Rae, but what choice does he have when no one in the entire world, including Zoey, would be okay with their relationship? Does he betray his father or his heart?
              In the pulse-pounding 8th book in the bestselling House of Night series, how far will the bonds of friendship stretch and how strong are the ties that bind one girl’s heart?

Hey Guys,
It's blog time. I know I haven't been around in a while, I had exams, but still I shouldn't be making excuses.
Awakened by P.C and Kirsten Cast, is the 8th installment of the House of Night series. This novel is a strong, powerful novel, that allows readers to get lost in the winding story lines. Like the previous 7 books, this follows Zoey and her gang as they try to battle evil and keep light strong. Readers do not be put off by that little statement, just because it sounds corney doesn't mean it's not a magnificent story.
This novel is strikingly writing, I fell in love with the way the authors make you feel like your there in the story.
****Spoiler Alert****
The part of this novel that I found enticing was when Zoey was in Skye -the ancient magickal island ruled by Queen Saghas.
When queen Saghas shows Zoey the true magick ability of the island, It's breath taking, and this is all down to descriptive and clever writing of these two authors.
The one negative thing I would make about this novel is that I felt that it was too stretched when really it was only 3 days, some readers may find this interesting but in my opinion it makes the story that bit unbelievable.
But never the less, this book is magnificent, I would highly recommend this to YA readers, it's a novel that will keep you guessing, and will surprise you at every turn.
My rating of Awakened ;
